One year on from its standalone launch, xAI’s Grok app is going global to cheers all over.
The iOS app, available since early January 2025 in major markets including the US, Australia, and India, has recently risen to the top spot on Productivity lists in several European countries like Poland, France, and Belgium.

The app’s momentum does not stop in Europe. In the crowded US market, Grok is currently number three on the US charts for free iPhone Productivity apps and number four in top grossing in the same category.
Other regions have turned in comparable performance numbers. The app is seeing strong showings in the United Kingdom and India, solidifying its role as a global challenger to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Why Users Are Switching
It seems the download increase comes from users finding added value in Grok’s special sauce.
Supporters of the platform often applaud it for being fast in its retrieval of news about current events and, in their eyes, the unbiased facts, something that works rather well with Elon Musk’s view toward AI as a truth seeking entity.
New side utility tools have also been well received by users. The app’s capacity to create customized health schedules has been emphasized as a standout trait in recent evaluations.

That said, the feedback is not without criticism. Some users still mention that the model frequently makes errors, one of the recurring flaws of LLMs.
Closing the Gap
The app’s cultural reach has expanded along with its install base. As of today, there are over 82 million posts on X, formerly Twitter, about the app, showing a thriving community ecosystem.
As downloads climb and Grok establishes a foothold in European markets that were once exclusive territory for other players, Grok is staking out its place next to the likes of ChatGPT.
