The artificial intelligence landscape just shifted, big time. OpenAI has officially released the GPT Store: a game-changing new markteplace where ChatGPT users can now build, share and explore custom AI tools, or “GPTs”.
This shift turns ChatGPT from just a powerful chatbot into an entire platform, comparable with the mobile OSs that dictate much of our digital lives.
A New Marketplace for Innovation
GPT Store is a virtual place built by Microsoft to help democratize AI tool building. The platform serves as a hub where you can browse a wide variety of GPTs for everything from math tutoring and sticker design to creative writing help.

OpenAI will profile interesting and useful GPTs weekly in order to make sure high-quality, novel applications are not overlooked. This curated experience is designed to aid users in finding new and useful tools amongst a rapidly expanding library of community developed content.

How to Access the GPT Store
Accessing the store is straightforward.
- For Users: The GPT Store can be reached from within the main ChatGPT interface. You can access it by logging in and clicking the “Explore GPTs” button on the navigation menu. GPT creations are paid subscriptions, but free-tier users can browse and use many of the GPTs available in the store.
- For Developers: To publish a GPT to the public store, you need to be subscribed to ChatGPT Plus or Pro, or in an Enterprise workspace.
Empowering Builders with No-Code
One of the best features about the GPT Store is its accessibility. Creating your own GPT is easy to do with no coding experience necessary making custom GPT specialists in any field or hobbyists who are fanatical about a subject AI app developers.
Construction is directed by the GPT Builder. Users can begin by talking to the builder, providing simple instructions in natural language and then testing out how the chatbot works in a preview panel.
This iterative approach gives creators a granular control in molding the behavior of their GPT as close to perfection as possible.
For those who want to take it further, developers still have the ability to use coding actions in order to connect their GPTs with other data or services, again making it feasible for more advanced, integrated applications.
Monetization Question
One big lure for creators is the prospect of a revenue-sharing model. OpenAI is planning a program in which creators of GPT apps can make money from whatever the tool does when users engage with their app.
Although OpenAI has declared its plan for the revenue program, the latter is still in a testing phase with select US builders. The company’s objective is to build a flourishing ecosystem that incentivizes creativity and impact, however its specific details on the criteria for payments and a timeline for general availability have not yet been released.
In the meantime, creative builders are already finding other ways to monetize their GPTs alongside (or without relying on) OpenAI’s official program leveraging affiliate marketing, brand sponsorships or even using their GPT as a lead generation service for consulting.
Privacy and Enterprise Control
OpenAI has stressed that privacy and control are fundamental principles of the new platform.
To make a GPT public, the builder needs to have their Builder Profile verified by enabling either their name or a verified website in settings.
For custom action-based GPTs making calls to external APIs, the builder is also required to provide its verified domain and a Privacy Policy URL.
Also, the data we give ChatGPT is never given back to OpenAI which means that any sensitive or proprietary data isn’t leaked.
The GPT Store also offers businesses the ability to make use of it. Customers on the ChatGPT Team and Enterprise plan level now have access to a private section of store where they can publish and manage GPTs within their workspaces in a secure way.
Enterprise admins get additional controls, with ability to control how internal GPTs are shared and to make calls which external GPTs can be used within their company.
In opening up the GPT Store, OpenAI isn’t just introducing a new feature; it’s creating an ecosystem. By enabling users to become creators and offering a venue for distribution and potential monetization, ChatGPT becomes the “everything app” of the AI age.
